Deposition strategies for generating cuboid volumes using extreme high-speed directed energy deposition

Extreme high-speed directed energy deposition (EHLA) is a variant of (DED-LB) developed at Fraunhofer ILT in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University. Because powder gas jet setup that aimed melting particles the laser beam before they enter pool, high process speeds up to several hundred meters per minute and layer thickness as thin 25 μm can be achieved. EHLA generally applied for rotationally symmetric coating applications. In previous experiments on prototype machine ponticon GmbH, was used building dense volumes, thus qualifying its use additive manufacturing, now termed 3D. this work, using iron-base alloy 1.4404 speed 40 m/min, cubic volumes are produced Different strategies commonly DED-LB tested their transferability The results different achieving best near net shape geometry shown comparison DED-LB. Furthermore, influence strategy technology thermal management microstructure investigated. achieved contour-hatch 1.5 contours 90° rotation hatch, both 3D built cubes more similar typical bed fusion than respect grain size structure.
